My Philosophy of Education

My teaching philosophy is based on my belief that all children are entitled to receive a quality education.  I believe that each and every student should receive many opportunities to achieve academic and social success based on his or her individuality.  I will achieve this through diversified instruction and open communication.  I will be attentive to each child’s academic ability and learning style in order to facilitate growth, both academically and personally.  I will accommodate, to the best of my ability, each and every academic need in my classroom through tiered assignments.  I will provide my students with the tools necessary for success, both in school and in life.

Furthermore, academic success is contingent on an academic environment that is stimulating and conducive to learning.  I will present quality instruction in a nurturing and structured environment.  My classroom will be a mutually respectful academic setting where students will interact confidently and share ideas.  I will encourage students to take responsibility for their own behavior by offering strategies for conflict resolution and peer mediation.  I will treat my students with dignity while keeping disruptive behavior to a minimum; the less disruptive behavior, the greater the students’ potential for learning.

When students are provided with an environment that is conducive to learning, they become actively engaged in the academic process.  As a teacher, I will facilitate learning by providing my students with access to information.  I will guide my students in their quest for knowledge, thereby allowing for self-discovery.

Learning best occurs when students are motivated.  I will work diligently to motivate my students by providing instruction and activities that are interesting and relevant to them.  I will incorporate hands-on activities and experiments as appropriate.  I will integrate technology at every given opportunity.  Technology has become an integral part of society; I will help my students develop their technological skills.

As the facilitator in a student-centered classroom, I will demonstrate an enthusiasm and an appreciation for learning.  I will serve as the best possible role model for my students.  I will strive to express my zealousness for learning while encouraging my students to embrace the education process.  Children who like to learn will develop invaluable scholastic skills that will endure for a lifetime.

Finally, knowledge is power.  Each and every student is capable of acquiring knowledge.  Knowledge is essential for building the foundation that will help students become successful, productive members of society.  I will endeavor to impart knowledge to each and every student I am given the opportunity to teach.
